Chapter Thirteen

After the coolness of his air-conditioned truck, walking from the garage to his front door had her skin damp and sticky. Seriously, why was it so hot and humid in Boston in April?

Climbing two flights of stairs in the stuffy, unvented hallways of his row house didn’t help matters.

“I need a shower,” she announced as he opened the door.

Felix greeted them with irate meows, not caring what she or anyone else wanted.

Brody scooped up her irritable feline and did the only thing that could distract him from his stomach—scratched behind his ears. “I’ll feed him. You go cool off.”

“Are you sure? He can be a handful when his dinner is late.” Felix made her out to be a liar when loud, contented kitty purrs filled the air.

“Go,” he urged. “I can handle your ferocious, man-eating cat.” Felix nudged his hand with his head for more pets when Brody stopped.

“He’s never this friendly around new people.”

“We came to an understanding that first night. Or, maybe he simply recognizes me as the alpha of the house. Either way, we’ll get along fine, won’t we, sweet boy?”

As she climbed the stairs, she marveled over sweet being attributed to her beyond-moody cat.

Minutes later, she stood under the rain shower, letting the tepid water cool her from head to toe. Why Felix had taken to Brody and was on his best behavior only around him was the last thing on her mind.

“Damn, Piper!” Brody’s deep voice boomed. “The water is freezing.”

She jumped, blinking and rubbing her eyes. When she could see again, she watched water rivulets trickle down his chest as he reached around her to adjust the temperature.

His shower had a screen rather than a curtain, which allowed him to sneak up on her. She protested the sudden rush of warm water. “No fair. This is the coolest I’ve been all day.”

His hands slid up her wet back as he pulled her close, her breasts pressed against his chest, and her belly cushioning his hard, insistent erection. “That’s too bad because I intend to heat you up again, and I don’t mean with the shower.”

He lifted her so they were face-to-face. It was only natural for her to wrap her legs around his hips. This opened her to him, and he took immediate advantage, gliding his cock up inside her while he dragged his open mouth up the side of her neck.

Her protests vanished when he pressed her back against the shower wall and moved inside her. Only moments ago, she would have welcomed the coolness of the tiles against her heated skin. Busy holding on while he pumped slow and deep, that was no longer a priority.
